Term 2 English (Reflection)

We have made an essay on Abomination written by Robert Swindells a great book for 8year old and older. The essay was pretty easy I only got challenged at making the body of the essay.
We also made static images which I finished and made a commentary. I picked the quote "The Twilight Zone" because Martha is different from everyone.
We've also assessed peoples static image and determine if they get "Excellence, Merit, Achieved, or Working Towards."

Abomination Essay

In the novel Abomination written by Robert Swindells, a protagonist named Martha Dewhurst. A girl bullied at school and beaten at home.  A girl whose family is part of a religious cult who have named themselves the "THE RIGHTEOUS" that follows certain rules that separates them from living normally like people who use modern technology.
One day a boy named Scott,  who is another main character lends her his ruler after she, Martha, forgot her one at home. After that day Scott has tried defending Martha for some obscure reason or another, making him a social outcast just like Martha. They became friends after Scott got beaten and Martha helping him by calling the teacher. They meet up from time-to-time to hang out, talk or eat food.
A very dark secret was revealed to Scott. A kid who is locked up in the cellar by Martha's parents, he had been trying to help Martha ever since and tried calling out to the boy's mother through posting messages online.
The book Abomination has helped me understand the importance of  Friendship.

The main idea of this essay to inform why Scott is an influential character in the story.
To start it off when Martha has forgotten to bring her ruler to school, Scott notices this and lent his own one to her even though everyone hated Martha for reasons of her being different from other kids their age. Scott paid no mind to it and didn't think about the consequences of being a social outcast himself. Scott has led me to believe that no matter what other people think you always do the right thing.
My previous school has said to me once, that wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it and right is right even though no one is doing it.
I agree with this saying because people these days follow on what the majority of other people are doing whether it's good or not.

My Second point is that Scott stood up for Martha when she was getting bullied. Originally he was reluctant on supporting Martha since he was originally bullying her on the first day of school.
He changes somehow I figured he felt sorry for Martha so he helped her.
At first, he blamed Martha because he thought she put some kind of spell on his ruler but after awhile he was just confused on why he helped her.
This action has to lead the two, to become friends with each other because no one has helped her in any way. This part of the story was important because Martha gained a friend to talk to or support her on her difficulties at her home.
I think it's good to have a friend to lend you hand because it'll be easier for people to live, just like how Martha started to change and see what was wrong with her life after Scott showed her that it is not normal to live in an abusive home and gave her confidence to stand to her parents so she could try to fix her life to save her and her sister's kid.

Lastly, Scott persevered in finding Martha’s sister, Mary. Even though that there was a little chance of finding her since there is a lot of people on the internet he keeps on trying even if he knows there were consequences for his actions bad or not.
By taking this risk Scott reunited Martha, her nephew and Big sister again. He saved Martha from being abused and following her parent's footstep and saved a little kids life from being hidden from the world and learning what the outside felt like. They were caged birds trying to break free and Scott was their saviour.

To sum it up Scott was a really important character on Martha’s life, Scott has supported her in any way possible, he wasn’t afraid to take action when there could have been consequences just to help a friend in need. If it wasn’t for him Martha would have remained living the way she was and her nephew locked up in the cage under in their cellar, while Martha is continuously being harassed and has been submitted to the life of being in “The Righteous.”

Music Matariki (Wairua-Music2018)

Things we've done this term

We have been learning our line and choreography for a music video on Wairua a Modern Maori Music which we have chosen for our Matariki performance. As of right now, we have finished everything, we've learnt our lines, finish our choreography and took a video of it, the teacher has also finished editing it.

What have I learnt in Music this term and Matariki?

I have learnt about Matariki which is a Maori New Year and Matariki is the Maori name for a group of seven stars known as the Pleiades star cluster.
Matariki is a star cluster which appears in the night sky during mid-winter.
According to the Maramataka (the Māori lunar calendar), the reappearance of Matariki brings the old lunar year to a close and marks the beginning of the new year. Hence, Matariki is associated with the Māori New Year.

How does our finished whole class video show my work?

It shows that we work hard on practising and remembering our choreography, remembering our lines and persevering until we got our finish product and it paid off since it looks pretty good.

What did I enjoy most about this project?

The dancing since it was pretty fun though I'm not really a person who likes the spotlight so it can be pretty hard, the dancing was pretty cool and it turned out well.

What did I find the most challenging?

The lyrics were pretty hard to remember at first, I couldn't even pronounce a sentence fast and got tongue tied but I persevered.

If I do this again what would I have done differently and why?

I would have been more confident and outgoing and possibly done a different dance move because it was pretty sloppy since I didn't really know what dance move I was gonna do.
