Persuasive Discussion - English 2019-2020

Pathos - Pathos derives from the Greek word pathea. It means to evoke a feeling already inside an audience or a reader. Usually, it elicits a feeling of sadness or pity. Speechwriters used this method to get people on their side.

Ethos - Ethos is like pathos but it deals with persuading people with ethics. It is when you're persuading them by using ideas of how a person is like, their morals and personal behaviour. It basically appeals to what a person thinks is right or wrong.

Logos - Logos is like the other two but you are persuading people with logics. You used facts and logic to convince audiences or readers to get them on your side. Bloggers tend to use statistics to prove points that things are happening and a lot of stuff changes over the year.

What are we doing? We are learning and researching about what ethos, pathos and logos mean.
Why are we doing it? We are doing it because we need to better understand what persuasive discussion is.
What questions do I have? Nothing.

Boomerangs and Aboriginal Art!

In Social Studies we studied aboriginal arts and the meaning behind it. We made a boomerang and painted it to make our own story.

What does your symbol mean? And the colours?
I used the Australian aboriginal designs and painted my boomerang to make a story.
On the bottom of the boomerang, on both sides, I painted the symbol of a man.
I did the bush tucker design after then the witchetty grub design.
The dots in the middle is my ancestors.
I used brown for the background to make the aboriginal theme and then I just used normal colours.

What did you do well with your research?
I was able to explain why aboriginals used this type of art and why they used boomerangs.
The arts is to make a hidden story where only they can understand it and the boomerangs are used for entertainment and hunting.

How could you have improved your research?
I could have explained it more and give more detail.

Salvation Army - 10English - Critical Literacy

What do the words suggest?
In the Salvation Army pamphlet, the cover has a title that says "Help Keep The Lights On This Winter" which suggest that there are people in need and doesn't have the stuff we have and get the privileged to experience the stuff that we do. It proposes that we should help these types of family.
We could help them by giving up some of our time and donating some of the stuff we don't need to charity, like The Salvation Army. We could also donate a little bit of money or canned foods.
What does the author of this text want us to know?
The author of the text wants us to know that the Salvation Army is there to help families in need.
They have been helping people for a long time and that people in need can go to them. They have helped over 120,000 families and individuals each year. They care for people and will always be there for them.

My Food Bag Semester

Blurb about the design process

Who was my profile target and what was your recipe based on?

In Home Economics we were designing a food bag. We planned and made a poster on what type of food a certain age group might want to eat. I choose the age group of teenagers and I came up with three ideas on what food they might eat. I picked ground beef taco, spaghetti and coleslaw for teens who are vegetarians.

Recipe Slide

I picked the spaghetti one since it was the most easiest to prepare.

Decision

Out of all our ideas we picked one of my groups idea and chose to make a burger.

Why was this recipe chosen?

It was chosen because it had vegetables and meat which balanced it out and cheese was also added.
Also it was one of the easiest to make.

How does it fit into the nutritional model of the dinner plate?

The burger had meat which gives us protein and it also had vegetables in it. The cheese in it gives us dairy.

What changes did you make during the 2 practice practical sessions and why?

We made some changes with the seasoning, which was cayenne pepper, because it was to much and made the burger to spicy to eat properly.

What was the positives about your final practical?

We made a fairly decent burger and followed the recipe properly.

Describe 2 things you have learnt in this semester.

-I have learnt to make a burger patty and how to cook it properly.
-Plan a food bag.

Wood Tech - Stool - CTW

What we have done so far is made a simple wooden stool. We used the saw and learned to cut in an angle and use the drills. We also used the sanders to make the stool look cleaner. I couldn't paint my one so I covered it in aqua prime.

Metallurgy - How To Prevent a Metal From Rusting

Whenever metal, oxygen and water you get the metal to rust. That's why your paint the metal to keep it from rusting. Metal rusting is because ion reacts with oxygen which causes oxide/iron oxide which is rusting.
There are other ways to prevent metal from rusting like coating it in oil or putting it in an airtight container.
So keep your tools that have metal dry and anything that has metal dry to keep it from rusting.
