Class Essay - English - Questions

What have I been learning?
I have been learning how to do essay by using the rule called 'GOLDEN'. It means to Gather and Organise ideas, Linking paragraphs, Descriptive words, Enabling words and phrases and Neat and Tidy which means to use an apostrophe or em-dash to make it look better.

How have I been learning it?
On the class essay, we made, we followed the 'GOLDEN' rule and gathered and organised ideas like this: Gathering Ideas

Lady Macbeth - Admired
  • Determined - Smashed Babies - “Have plucked my nipples from his boneless gums and dash the brains out, had I sworn this.”  13
  • Manipulative - She calls Macbeth a girl for not being a “man”  2
  • Brave - After Macbeth kills Duncan Lady Macbeth tells him to not think about it/Carries normally after the murder. 10
  • Remorseful - Feels sorry for what she did. “Out damn spot.”  7
  • Loving - She still fancies Macbeth 6

Organising our ideas
  • Determined - Smashed Babies - “Have plucked my nipples from his boneless gums and dash the brains out, had I sworn this.”
  • Loving - She still fancies Macbeth
  • Remorseful - Feels sorry for what she did. “Out damn spot.”

Why have I been learning?
Because it will help us in writing future essays.

What have I been learning?
I have been learning how to write an introduction to an essay.

How have I been learning it?
We did an introduction to an essay and we used descriptive words to make it better. This is what we came up with: There are many strong formidable female characters in literature but none can compare to Shakespeare’s Lady Macbeth. She had several qualities that audiences can like, disliked, or admire. Admirable qualities that helped us understand the text include her determination, her love for Macbeth and her remorse.

Why have I been learning?
To better our writing skills and help us get better at writing an introduction.

What have I been learning?
We did a S.E.X.Y paragraph which means to State the topic I am doing, give an Example then give an Explanation and then to Link it back to the statement.

How have I been learning it?
In the class essay, we did, we made three paragraphs using the S.E.X.Y format and this is what we came up with: S - Not only can we admire Lady Macbeth for her determination, but also for her unconditional love for her husband.  E - This is demonstrated by the fact that she not only helped plan a murder for her husband, Macbeth, but she also helped carry out the plan and cover it up. X - This shows us that in life, even treacherous people are, capable of murder, can love their partners dearly. Y - Similarly, Hitler murdered millions of people and had a partner called Eva Braun.
Although we don't have to use the full format it's just a guide to making a paragraph.

Why have I been learning?
To get a better understanding of how to write paragraphs on an essay.

Macbeth and Lady Macbeth Characterisation Task

1.)Valiant soldier or Violent schemer at the beginning?
Image result for macbethMacbeth was a valiant soldier at the beginning, he was loyal to his king and served him with all his might. He became a war hero trying to defend his land from the traitors and the invaders. Though he became a violent schemer after the three witches gave Macbeth a prophecy and his wife influencing him even more.

2.)Which factor is more influential. (A. The Three Witches and their prophecy 2. Vaulting Ambitions 3. Lady Macbeth)
For me, I think it was Lady Macbeth who had the most influences on Macbeth than anyone or anything else. If it wasn't for her Macbeth may not have gone through with the assassination to kill King Duncan. She tested his will on what he will do to accomplish his ambitions, into doing whatever it takes to do what needs to be done.

3.)Has he completely lost it in the banquet scene? (Was the ghost of Banquo real or imaginary)
I guess in that scene he still had a little bit of his sanity left in him because he was able to calm himself for a little bit. I do think that the wrong things he did mess with his mind and made him see things that are not there, hence Banquo's ghost who appeared seated on his chair. The ghost was most likely imaginary in my opinion.

4.)Immediate and overpowering remorse. What's that about?
Remorse is when you feel sorry or bad for something that you did and regret doing it. I guess immediate and overpowering remorse is what it says. When you do something really bad and you know it was the wrong thing to do you immediately realise that your actions are wrong and should not have been done in the first place, it gets in your head which is why it's overpowering.

He was obsessed with killing Banquo because of the prophecy which was told by the witch. It said that he, Macbeth, will become king but so will that son of Banquo as well which is Fleance. So Macbeth thought that if he kills both he will have the life of royalty even more while Banquo and Fleance won't.

Under each heading add at a quote or a piece of description to describe the character of Macbeth.

Macbeth shows that he is courageous because of people saying  “Brave Macbeth, well he deserved that name” it means that Macbeth being called brave is what he deserves.

Macbeth shows that he is loyal because of what he said in the first chapter in the play where he said "The service and loyalty I owe, in doing so, pays itself" it means that being loyal to the king is his job as a warrior.

Macbeth has shown that he is ambitious after the witch gave him the prophecy. He was loyal and serve his king up until to the point where the witches said that he will be the new king.

Deception is shown when the scene of where Lady Macbeth pulled Macbeth aside to another room and saying to him that he should "appear as an innocent little flower but be the serpent under it".

Macbeth has shown ruthlessness by having the idea of killing King Duncan and actually killing him himself, he also killed the guards who were innocent. At the end of the play, he turned tyrannical and tried to kill everyone who opposed him.

Near the end of the play, Macbeth has become numb with his life, he became bored with things and when the news of his wife's death came to him he merely said that it was bound to happen. He was world-weary the feeling of not caring and feeling numb to what happens to his life.

Macbeth shows him being philosophical near the end of the play, he said stuff about how "life is just a walking shadow, a player who struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more."
He compares his life as an actor who does his hardest to put up a good show but didn't get a good character to play and only did a few things and his already gone backstage and done performing.

There is a lot of scenes which shows Macbeth's braveness but when Macbeth was battling Scotland for King Duncan and facing all of his enemies with no fear I think it showed how brave he was. He killed all of them and showed no mercy.

I think a scene where Macbeth shows he is defiant is when he is battling his attackers at the end of the play when he thought how he was all alone after his wife died.Image result for macbeth final battle
